Nancy Rotering for Attorney General

At this moment in history, it is absolutely vital that we have a principled Attorney General with the courage and experience to stand up and fight for the people of Illinois.

As Attorney General, I will be a powerful advocate, continuing my fight against the NRA to reduce gun violence, and taking on unscrupulous drug makers and online and offshore pharmacies to help curb the opioid epidemic gripping our state. I will continue to support our Dreamers and their families, stand up for the rights of women and our LGBTQ communities, protect our fragile planet, speak out for organized labor, reform our criminal justice system, and work to ensure economic fairness for all Illinoisans.

As a mother of four and a Mayor, I know how to get things done. I have a record of holding big corporations accountable and cleaning up government – something we need now more than ever in Illinois.

Courageous. Progressive. Advocate.

Nancy Rotering’s lifetime commitment to advocacy drives her public service.

Following two years on the Highland Park City Council, Nancy’s work on human services and community issues led to a hard-fought victory to become the first woman Mayor of Highland Park.

A two-term Mayor, she shook up City Hall with a major reform of city government that resulted in transparency, accessibility, collaboration and ethical accountability. Nancy led the fight to hold ComEd responsible to northeast Illinois customers, resulting in millions of dollars in infrastructure upgrades, and led the charge to pass one of the nation’s only local assault weapons bans. She successfully fought the NRA all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Nancy’s dedication to public service spans decades. Active in the local and greater community, she founded the Highland Park/Highwood Legal Aid Clinic, providing free legal services in the areas of immigration – focusing on Dreamers and their families, domestic violence, and housing. She serves on a broad range of civic and philanthropic commissions, boards, and committees including Planned Parenthood of Illinois, and created an environmental advocacy training program for public school students.

When she ran for Congress in 2016, she was endorsed by both the Chicago Tribune and the Sun-Times, as well as Senator Dick Durbin, former Senator Adlai Stevenson and the late Hon. Abner Mikva.

Nancy was honored as the 2013 Rotary Humanitarian of the Year. In 2014, Today’s Chicago Woman named Nancy to their 100 Women of Inspiration, and she was named to the Forty Over 40 list in Forbes.

Nancy Rotering earned her undergraduate degree in economics from Stanford and an MBA from Northwestern. Nancy worked in finance at General Motors before attending the University of Chicago Law School. Nancy practiced law with McDermott Will & Emery. She and her husband Rob have four sons.
